Έ. Ahtsioglou: The strategy of the Mitsotakis government has failed for the world of work

“The strategy of the Mitsotakis government, based on the interests of the world of work and the vast majority of society, has failed. Obviously, based on the interests of large business groups, this strategy is considered absolutely successful. The question is by what criteria one pursues politics. that is our dividing line “, stressed the general rapporteur of SYRIZA Efi Ahtsioglou in the discussion of the Budget 2022, in the Finance Committee of the Parliament.

“The two critical fronts, the pandemic and the precision, have deteriorated rapidly, while the government is dealing with the situation with meaningless sermons of Mr. Mitsotakis. It considers, in fact, that it has no responsibility for these two problems, but also that has taken all the necessary measures, that what it is doing is absolutely adequate. As society suffocates from price increases, the government reiterates that it has taken adequate measures to protect it.When our fellow citizens lose their lives outside the ICU, it insists on “the public health system has been adequately supported”, said the SYRIZA MP and underlined that the Budget cuts 820 million from the public health, deducts 280 million from the public hospitals, cuts by 600 million the extraordinary expenses for the pandemic.

“The government is trying to reverse the picture with accounting acrobatics, using the extraordinary costs of the pandemic. As if the issue is communication and not the substance. On the big issue of accuracy, no intervention is foreseen in the 2022 Budget. for the protection of businesses and households, while the prices of basic living standards have skyrocketed not only in comparison with 2020 but also in relation to 2019 “, said Ms. Ahtsioglou.

Regarding the growth rate of 2021, he stated that “it is a result of the comparison with the recession of the previous year” and noted that, “in relation to the rebound of the Greek economy and in comparison with the recovery of other countries, Greece is below the European “Average, 7th from the end in a total of 27 states. Celebrations are by no means justified, especially in the midst of such a social condition.”

“The most critical thing is what kind of development we are talking about, who it concerns,” said the SYRIZA MP and accused the government of talking about development, at a time when:

– Cuts 1.7 billion in state funding for social benefits,

– abolished 8-hour collective bargaining agreements and any barriers to redundancies,

– Eurofound research shows that Greece is first in the percentage of young people left unemployed in the pandemic, reaching 30%,

– keeps the minimum wage fixed,

– deceived pensioners, promised increases he did not make and cut the 900 million of the permanent 13th pension established by SYRIZA,

– nullifies all support measures for workers, businesses and households due to pandemic,

“Greece has agreed to be a champion in fiscal adjustment until 2024 in the Eurozone.”

“SYRIZA-PS”, continued Ms. Ahtsioglou, submitted concrete and costed proposals for the support of the society, among which:

– New NSS, with support for staff, infrastructure and primary health.

– Increase of the minimum wage to 800 euros.

– Write off a significant part of the debts of the pandemic.

– Reduction of special fuel consumption times for the duration of the accuracy wave.

– Abolition of the feat fee.

– Liquidity tools in SMEs through the development bank “.

The SYRIZA general rapporteur added that the government made other choices, namely “reduction of corporate income tax for the few companies that have profits, reduction of capital gains tax, reduction of tax on parental benefits for maximum incomes and assets”.

“Clear priorities that sharpen inequalities,” commented Efi Ahtsioglou.
