The inextricably linked relationship of the National Bank with the creation of the free Greek state, with its history, economy and progress, was pointed out by the Chairman of the Board of the National Bank, Gikas Hardouvelis at the opening of the exhibition of the National Bank Educational Foundation ( MIET), on the subject “Genesis of the Greek State, Cartography and History / 1770-1838”. This exhibition is held in the context of the celebrations for the 200 years since the Revolution of 1821.
In his speech, Mr. Hardouvelis stressed that the National Bank is once again claiming its leading role in the Greek economy and society of the 21st century. Every day, she added, it becomes more and more competitive and modern, while continuing to support MIET, which she created 50 years ago.
The president of Ethniki underlined that MIET during this period of 50 years actively supported Greek education and Greek letters, with its excellent publications. At the same time, it supplied the Universities and an elite layer of Greek society, with intense spiritual pursuits. This social stratum has expanded significantly today, added Mr. Hardouvelis, emphasizing that its requirements impose new ways of communication with Greek letters and culture.
The president of Ethniki concluded by saying that MIET continues its course towards the next fifty years of its life. It is being transformed, together with the Bank itself, in order to effectively address the modern Greek society, keeping high the quality criteria of its publications.
