Ν. Dendias: The sovereignty of the Greek islands is unquestionable

The inflammatory rhetoric of Turkey was put to his Norwegian counterpart by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.

In particular, as broadcast by ERT, the Foreign Minister in Oslo, indirectly commenting on the latest reports of the Turkish President on the Greek islands, spoke of a drastic escalation of Turkish behavior, with Turkish officials making a barrage of illegal and provocative statements on a daily basis.

We have to face a country which, despite the fact that it is our ally in NATO, not only violates our national airspace almost every day, but its fighters fly over Greek territory, said Nikos Dendias, also reminding successive disputes over the sovereignty of the islands of the Eastern Aegean.

The sovereignty of the Greek islands is unquestionable, the minister said emphatically, accusing Turkey that in the midst of a critical situation for the Western Alliance, it chooses to undermine NATO’s fundamental principles and values.

“All sides should avoid further escalation in Ukraine”

Turning to the Russian-Ukrainian, Nikos Dendias described the current situation as unsustainable, calling on all sides to avoid steps that could lead to further escalation with uncontrollable consequences.

This is the message that the Greek minister will convey to his Russian counterpart, reiterating that it is necessary to maintain open channels of communication between NATO and Moscow, as Greece considers Russia an integral part of European Security Architecture.
