US Treasury Secretary Janet Glenn said today that banning abortions could have a “very damaging effect” on the US economy, as some women could not complete their education, reducing their working-life income. while others would be left out of the workforce.
Speaking to the Senate Banking Committee, Glenn said research has shown that banning women from having an abortion increases their chances of living in poverty or with government support.
“I believe that eliminating the right of women to decide for women whether to have children would have devastating consequences for the economy and bring women back many decades,” Jellen said when asked.
Last week, a draft decision of the Supreme Court was leaked, which could affect the constitutional right to abortion.
