It is extremely important that Turkey’s issues regarding Finland’s accession to NATO be resolved before the Alliance Summit in Madrid in late June, Finnish Foreign Minister Peka Haavisto said on Friday.
The remarks were made by the Finnish Foreign Minister following a meeting with his US counterpart Anthony Blinken in Washington.
Turkey opposes Sweden and Finland ‘s demands for NATO membership, citing Ankara’ s “tolerance” of those countries in Ankara ‘s terrorist organizations, such as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and its affiliates, or the “Hizmet” (“Service”) network of the Turkish Islamist preacher (self-exiled in the USA) Fethullah Gulen.
