The ambulances, as pointed out by the Athens News Agency citing dpa, departed from Khan Younis in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Their mission is to evacuate the sick and wounded from al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) had recently announced that al-Ahli Hospital was operating at minimum capacity.
According to the World Health Organization, 22 of the 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip have ceased to function due to the war between Israel and Hamas.
