10% of booster doses applied in Brazil were used in the city of Rio

About 10% of all booster doses of the Covid-19 vaccine applied in Brazil were used in the city of Rio de Janeiro, according to a survey carried out by CNN based on data from the Ministry of Health and the Municipal Health Department .

In the last national update, about seven million and three hundred thousand third doses (7,350,139) were applied in the country, while in the capital of Rio de Janeiro, approximately 750,000 people (749,777) received the booster.

After four days of interruption for the holiday of the Dead, the vaccination campaign of the third dose is resumed in Rio. According to the city’s vaccination calendar, until the 13th of this month, all elderly people over 61 years old will be immunized with the reinforcement against the virus.

This Wednesday (3), the third dose is intended for all seniors aged 64 or over. On Thursday (4), the target audience is women aged 63 and over, and on Friday (5), it is the turn of men in this age group.

To ensure immunization, the municipal health department withdrew 162,630 doses of the immunizing agent from Pfizer in the central state last Friday (29).

The city panel, however, shows that more than 14 thousand elderly people have not received even the first dose of the immunizing agent. Of these, 48% are aged between 70 and 74 years.

Until the next 30th, health workers who took the second dose in May can also look for posts to receive the booster. In December, it will be the turn of professionals in the area who received the second application in June.

According to the capital’s vacinometer, 67.2% of the total Rio population is immunized against Covid-19. As for the first dose, 87.5% of people are vaccinated with the first cycle.
