10 reasons that make Madonna's show in Copacabana a historic performance

Madonna performed on the beach Copacabana , in Rio de Janeiro, on Saturday night (04). Despite being more than 50 minutes late, the queen of pop delivered more than 2 hours of show and more than 20 songs .

The singer’s performance, which is the 81st of the tour “The Celebration Tour “, took more than 1.6 million people to Copacabana.

Madonna's tour began in 2023 to celebrate her 40-year career. The last stop of the tour was in Rio de Janeiro – which is the only date in South America.

For that reason alone, the show already had everything it needed to be historic. But Madonna delivered much more.

Why was Madonna's show in Copacabana historic? Check out 10 reasons:

  • 1. Performance from start to finish

This isn't a show, it's a celebration “: that's how Bob the Drag Queen introduces the queen of pop. Bob presents the show as if he were telling a story. And that's exactly what it does: it tells the story of a girl who was born in Michigan, in the United States, and dominated the world.

During the show, the focus is on telling Madonna's trajectory. They talk about her early career, when she moved to New York with just $35 and a dream, when she achieved stardom, and much more.

The biggest difference is that the entire story is told through artistic performances. Dancers even dress like Madonna at certain stages of her life and interact with the singer to address specific moments in her life.

  • 2. Costume change

Madonna created the concept of pop performance as we know it. One of these main points is the constant changing costumes .

With a look for each of the 25 songs, Madonna uses visual and fashion elements to help tell the story she wants to tell.

Before “Like A Prayer”, for example, she is dressed all in black in a religious ceremony, with her wrists tied by a rosary. Costume is not just a prop: it is narrative instrument .
