Timeless is an adjective that lends itself perfectly to Sardinia. Because just as it is true that in some periods it has been less “trendy” than in other destinations, it is even more true that it has never gone out of fashion and has been an essential holiday destination for many decades.
In addition to the sea and the environment in general, the kitchen continues to play a fundamental role which in some ways is one of the most ethnic in Italy: it is not difficult to eat from Puglia, Campania or Sicily in large cities as in provincial towns.
The good local Sardinian cuisine off the island can be counted on the fingers of one hand. And it is no coincidence, of course. If then, Sardinian dishes are enjoyed in locations overlooking the sea or on terraces with a spectacular sea view, here we are at the masterpiece. All the more so in a season where – green pass or not – sitting outdoors is still a pleasure and gives safety.
We have selected – at our sole discretion – ten places where you can eat well and that make you happy for the position. Just review the classics of Sardinian cuisine, which you will find here without problems, sometimes together with more eclectic dishes. But we are for the typicality so order crustaceans, mussels and clams as if it were raining (perhaps, in combination with pasta), look for the bottarga (real) and on the south-west coast (Carloforte, first of all) taste the tuna which is one of the best in the Mediterranean. The regulatory trio of pasta – not for fish sauces – provides i mallorredus (usually with sausage gravy), i culurgiones (dumplings stuffed with ricotta and mint) ei lorighittas. The fregula on the coast and the porceddu inside remain cult dishes. And to close, of course, the desserts that are among the most original, starting with set, a disc of thin dough that contains a filling of fresh pecorino cheese, slightly acidic, and flavored with lemon, fried and covered with melted honey, preferably bitter (like that of strawberry tree). Woe to you if you don’t taste it.
