10 strange symptoms of the Covid-19 virus

The most frequent symptoms are obviously cough, fever, fatigue, loss of the senses of taste and smell. They are the ones that indicate all the international health authorities. Yet the signs ofSars-CoV-2 infection they can be numerous. After a year of pandemic, literature and observations on tens of millions of infected are now abundant and in many cases, although there are no certain or very close causal links, it seems that many other signs than the most frequent ones may be associated with the infection. And that they may therefore constitute less common symptoms of the virus-related syndrome but equally significant and to which attention should be paid.

However one in five positive people does not have any of the most common symptoms, experts explain. That over the months, through studies or simple observations yet to be scientifically proven, have started to connect a large amount of signals to Covid-19. They range from skin rashes to states of mental confusion to the infamous language from Covid, a series of ulcers in the mouth and on the tongue. Many of these symptoms have been picked up by Tim Spector, epidemiologist at King’s College London and responsible for the study conducted through the application Covid Symptom Study, developed by Zoe, with which positive people in Britain can signal the presence of the most diverse symptoms. Useful elements also to deepen the so-called long Covid syndrome.

Covid-19 it seems a rather unique syndrome in this sense, that is, in causing one so wide range of symptoms (21% of patients, for example, reported skin manifestations). One of these is precisely the language from Covid, which ends up looking a bit like a map, with a series of patches and ulcers. For some people it can be very painful while in others the discomfort comes and goes. It can last a few days and even months. A situation that can be associated with other pathologies, of course, but which if linked to typical symptoms of Covid-19 and with good probability manifests precisely the positivity.

The loss of taste and smell, of course, but also more precisely a change in taste towards metallic sensations in the mouth. Some people even smell their own odd way. They think they smell bad and this is obviously “extremely unpleasant,” Spector explains.

Then there is the hair loss. A very rare symptom but still reported by some positives, explained the expert. We are not sure if this is a significant symptom, we need further information, but it is still to be taken into consideration. Of course, the natural explanation is that it is the cause of the loss stress that you live for that condition, and also for the mobilization of the immune system, which is a direct consequence of the infection itself.

Sometimes, the reports collected by Spector prove, some people experience confusion or even delusions after developing the disease. A more common occurrence among the elderly, so it could be one of the most established symptoms, often followed by stomach problems or diarrhea. In some cases, delirium was the only symptom of the infection.

A minority, about 3%, of patients reported conjunctivitis, which had in fact been identified even at the beginning of the pandemic. They would tend to develop in later stages of the disease, along with classic symptoms such as cough and fever, especially in those who have developed quite severe symptoms.

Headache, fatigue e muscle problems they are usually the first signs that Covid-19 is developing, although in some cases the authorities, such as the British one, do not report them as initial symptoms. About 80% suffer from it in the first few days. Then there is one loss of appetite which leads to skipping meals and can be an interesting sign, one of the five fundamental symptoms to look for in children.

Other problems reported by patients are the stomach pain and skin rashes, which are associated with high fever for at least three days (and which obviously could sometimes be confused with other pathologies), also in this case in children but always in very rare cases.

Again i rash cutanei, on the whole body, can be considered signals of Covid-19: 9% of those who test positive then develop similar manifestations. Some were already known to be associated with other infections, others would seem typical of this one. The most common is a papular macular rash or erythematous vesicle rash, red and irregular, which can develop anywhere on the body but particularly on the hands and knees. Another common reaction is instead of type hive. They would be triggered by the immune response and usually appear after infection, although this is not the rule. In 21% of cases, those who had these rashes did not develop any other symptoms.

It closes with thebig toe from Covid, pages geloni that attack the toes and hands, which can also turn blue, and are probably linked to acrocyanosis, attributable to a vasculitis and considered a pathognomonic sign of the syndrome. In some cases, however, they appear a few months after the disease and are more common in children.
