10-year-old boy in Spain rescued from mudslide after hanging from tree for eight hours

The roads have turned into rivers and the waters are sweeping away everything in their path bad weather hitting Spain. A child has been rescued after hanging onto a tree for eight hours to escape the floods mudslide, which claimed the lives of five people. The boy’s family were staying in their holiday home in Aldea del Fresno, west of Madrid, when the storm on sunday.

Frightened by the flash floods, they climbed into their car late Sunday night, but were soon swept away by the waters. The boy he was found, dirty and bruised, but thankfully alive, the next morning – as were his mother and sister. His father is still missing. “The boy spent the night hanging from a tree,” Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the Madrid region, told reporters, according to the Guardian.

Helicopters were sent to rescue people who had sought shelter on the roofs of their homes in the Toledo region, about 50 kilometers southwest of Madrid, emergency services said.

Spain: Rainfall record of 90 liters per square meter

The Spanish meteorological service announced that a record rainfall of 90 liters per square meter was recorded in the region on Sunday.
