A 10-year-old English boy named Teddy created an online petition asking Apple to change the design of the “nerd” emoji on the keyboard.
A BBC, the boy said the current design is “offensive and insulting” to people who wear glasses. In its version of the cartoon, the emoji would have a discreet smile, without teeth showing, and thinner glasses, in addition to being called the “genius” emoji, instead of “nerd”.
Teddy was reportedly upset by the emoji’s current design and took his complaints to one of his teachers, who helped him create the online petition.
“They are making people think we are nerds and that is absolutely horrible,” he told BBC. “This is making me sad and upset, and if I find it offensive, thousands of people around the world must also find it offensive.”
“I like wearing glasses because they make me see much better and they look nice and stylish,” added the boy.
Teddy even added that if Apple accepted his ideas, it would be “amazing” and he would be “really excited.”
