100% Brazilian vaccine is backed by AstraZeneca, says Fiocruz

The Brazilian vaccine is ready. Manufactured by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) with inputs produced in Brazil, it received the approval of AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford to be distributed to the Brazilian population. The information is from Fiocruz itself.

According to the investigation of the CNNthe foundation already has the first batch of the immunizer ready, which had the quality control approved by the pharmaceutical company on Monday (14), and is now awaiting the agenda of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) to be delivered to the Ministry of Health.

THE CNN found that Fiocruz received on Monday the approval of the quality control of the 100% Brazilian vaccine — the immunizer received the Anvisa registration in early January.

The Brazilian vaccine is the result of the technology transfer agreement between Fiocruz and the consortium formed by the University of Oxford and the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. The contract provided that Fiocruz’s teams would acquire the necessary knowledge to produce the active pharmaceutical ingredient (IFA), the main input for the vaccine, in Brazil.

According to reports made to CNN, the Ministry of Health arranges the details with Palácio do Planalto for President Bolsonaro to participate in the first batch delivery event. The President has been advised by allies to receive the vaccine during this event.
