According to a source, an interesting project has started in China to remake the most popular Tesla electric car – Model 3. As a result, the car should turn into a hybrid. And a very powerful hybrid.

Model 3 plans to remove the front trunk and install a turbocharged 2.0-liter Volkswagen EA888 engine from the Skoda Octavia RS. Why is a more powerful engine not chosen for these purposes? For example, some V8? Everything is simple here – a gasoline V8 simply would not fit under the hood of a Model 3.

Here’s what is interesting: in the base, this internal combustion engine does not indulge in power – it is 220–230 hp. However, the project participants are going to seriously remake it. Estimated engine power at the moment is 700 hp! But that’s not all: the 300 hp electric motor located on the rear axle is planned to be retained. As a result, the power plant of such a Model 3 will be 1000 hp. Almost like the Tesla Model S Plaid. At the same time, the “project” Model 3 will have several operating modes: purely gasoline, purely electric, mixed and hybrid, in which the internal combustion engine will charge the traction battery. After installing a gasoline engine in the Model 3, a gear lever will appear in the cabin.

It is expected that the complete conversion of an electric vehicle into a hybrid will take 2-3 months. The public display of the unique Model 3 is scheduled for May 1st.
