1000 times Maldini in Serie A

The infinite saga of the Maldini. From Caesar to Paul to Daniel, the Maldini family has hit the 1000 overall appearances in Serie A. The statistics say of Paolo arrived at 647, Cesare at 347 and Daniel, stopped at 6, the last of which was stamped on Wednesday evening at San Siro when he entered the scene of Milan-Juventus during the match. 1000 times Maldini.

It is an extraordinary record for a family that has linked its name to Milan. The history of the Maldini generation in Italy is a special one, and boasts very few equals in the world.

It is a life path marked by a distinctive trait: the loyalty of its performers, united in the same idea of the world and sport. “The values that my father Cesare taught me – Paolo said several times – are those that have contributed to making me what I am”.

Cesare, who passed away in 2016 at the age of 84, from Trieste, was a flag of Milan from 1955 to 1966, making it the first Italian to lift the European Cup – as captain – back in 1963, when AC Milan defeated the Benfica of the champion Eusebio at Wembley.

Paolo lived 24 years of AC Milan as a protagonist, from the day of his very young debut – at 16 years old in 1985 – until the farewell match in 2009. He was probably one of the two or three strongest Italian defenders of all time, the record holder at Milan, with his 7 Scudetti, the 5 Champions League and overall appearances, including cups: 902. Married to the Venezuelan model Adriana Fossa, Paolo has two children, Christian (24) and Daniel (19). The first tried a career as a footballer – growing up in the jovial ones of Milan – and found his dimension in Serie C, with the Pro Sesto shirt, the club he currently plays with.

Daniel, on the other hand, appears to be more talented, who made his Serie A debut almost a year ago, February 2020, and who since this year has been permanently attached to the first team, where he is learning the tricks of the trade from a champion, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who plays in his own roll: attacker. Daniel is in fact the only “black sheep” of a family of defenders. Grandfather Cesare and dad Paolo have been firm points of the Italian national team for years: this is the goal of Daniel, who has just left for his adventure in the world of football, always and in any case under the sign of the Maldini, a guarantee.
