112-year-old Cearense confirmed as the oldest man in the world, says Guinness

João Marinho Neto, from Ceará, aged 112, was confirmed as the oldest man in the world by Guinness World Records this Thursday (28). The milestone comes after the death of British John Tinniswood, also aged 112, last Monday (25).

According to LongeviQuest, used by Guinness, the Brazilian turned 112 years and 52 days old in the city of Apuiarés (CE) this Tuesday (26). Previously, he was recognized as the oldest living man in Brazil and Latin America.

Furthermore, João is the last surviving male who was born in the year 1912.

The man was born in the municipality of Maranguape (CE) on October 5, 1912. He is from a farming family and moved with his parents to a rural area of ​​Apuiarés. At the age of four, he was already helping his father in the fields, taking care of the cattle and harvesting fruit from the trees in Juazeiro.

After getting married, he followed in his father’s footsteps in agriculture, cultivating the land that his then wife inherited. On the farm, he grew corn and beans, and also raised cattle, goats, pigs and chickens.
