This March 12, the 95th edition of the Oscars took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California, United States.
Unlike last year, the most anticipated night in the movie world was not overshadowed by onstage brawls, so the 2023 Oscars were a smashing success, delivering some unforgettable moments, from the big winners to the incredible performances of Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
Everything everywhere at the same time won seven statuettes, including the Best Picture category, while Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor Oscar for his extraordinary performance in The whale. We want them to have fun, to feel safe, and most importantly, for me to feel safe. If someone in the audience commits an act of violence, he will be “awarded the Oscar for Best Actor and allowed to give a 19-minute speech.”
2. Lady Gaga and the photographer
Lady Gaga did not hesitate to help the photographer who fell behind her on her way down the carpet champagne despite the long and magnificent Versace dress she was wearing.
3. Michelle Yeoh makes history
At 60, Michelle Yeoh will go down in history as the first Asian woman to win the Best Actress statuette. Her speech was moving and encouraging, especially when she addressed the girls and boys, asking them to never give up on her dreams.

By regulation, after having won the 2022 Oscar for Best Actor, Will Smith should have been the one to present the Oscar for Best Actor of the Year, but due to his decade-long ban on any event at the Hollywood Film Academy, as a consequence of the Chris Rock slapping incident, Jessica Chastain and Halle Berry took his place.
5. Guillermo del Toro broke a historic record
Guillermo del Toro made history at the 2023 Oscars by becoming the first person in history to win an Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director (both for the shape of water) and for Best Animated Film, the latter for its extraordinary adaptation of pinocchio.
6. The Brendan Fraser Revival
Emotional, breathless and with tears in his eyes, Brendan Fraser received the Best Actor statuette for his outstanding performance in The whale. Struggling to speak and referring to her career and his life, Fraser said:
Only whales can go deep. It was like an expedition to the bottom of the sea, going back up was not easy.
7. Jamie Lee Curtis is moved and remembers her parents
Though incredulous, eventually Jamie Lee Curtis also nabbed her first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for Everything everywhere at the same time. On stage, the actress thanked the directors and all those who have worked on this film, dedicating the statuette to her family.

John Travolta fought back tears as he introduced the “In Memoriam” segment, which featured musical accompaniment by Lenny Kravitz. Sadly, in 2022, the movie world saw huge stars depart.
