An operation by the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ), with support from the General Inspectorate of the Military Police, arrested 13 military police officers in the city of Belford Roxo, in Baixada Fluminense, this Tuesday morning (14).

In total, 14 PMs were reported for the crimes of criminal organization, passive corruption and embezzlement committed in 2019 and 2020. The crimes were discovered after the seizure of the cell phone of Julio Cesar Ferreira dos Santos, who is responsible for double homicide.

In the seized device, several conversations were found between the group of police officers and traders and motorcycle taxi drivers from the region of the 39th Military Police Battalion, with the aim of charging amounts for their safety, which constitutes a crime of criminal organization.

During the investigation, evidence of other crimes was found, such as diversion of drugs, firearms, cell phones and vehicle parts.

In a statement, the Rio de Janeiro Military Police command stated that it does not condone misconduct in the troops and reported that the agents were taken to the Corporation's Prison Unit, in the city of Niterói, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro.

Agents will respond to administrative disciplinary procedures that may result in their exclusion from the corporation's staff, in addition to the possibility of punishment as provided for in the Corporation's internal regulations.
