13-year-old injures coordinator with knife and sets fire to school in Bahia

A 13-year-old teenager attacked the Yeda Barradas Carneiro Municipal School, where he studies, in the city of Morro do Chapéu, in Chapada Diamantina, Bahia. On Tuesday morning (27), he set fire to the school and wounded the principal with a knife. The young man was apprehended by the Military Police and must answer for an infraction analogous to the crime of light bodily harm.

According to information from the Bahia Civil Police, the student entered the school and threw homemade explosives such as Molotov cocktails, which caused the flames. He then allegedly stabbed the coordinator. No one was injured by contact with the fire and the victim will be sent for forensic examination.

The Military Police reported that the 7th BPM was triggered after receiving information that a student had tried to set fire to the school. When the police arrived, the teenager was apprehended and presented to the Guardianship Council for the adoption of appropriate measures.

The Civil Police reported that, in principle, he will respond for an infraction similar to the crime of light bodily harm, but the testimonies that are being heard will help to assess whether another infraction was committed.

On Monday (26), the Colégio Municipal Eurides Sant’Anna, in Barreiras, in the western region of Bahia, was also the scene of an attack. In this case, there was one fatal victim. A disabled student who used a wheelchair was killed by a 14-year-old boy wearing black clothing, a hood and glasses.

According to information from the Civil and Military Police of Bahia, he jumped over the school wall, in the São Pedro neighborhood, and killed 19-year-old Geane de Silva de Brito, with stab wounds and a firearm. The Municipal Secretary of Education says he mixed with the students at the time of entry.
