14 most anticipated EVs of 2022 you need to see at least once

2022 can rightfully be considered the year of electric vehicles. Some highly anticipated models are slated for it, including the Tesla Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning and GMC Hummer EV. However, this is not a complete list of new generation vehicles that should surprise the public in the next 12 months. For example, the affordable Mazda MX-30 and the eco-friendly Fisker Ocean SUV are also among the interesting options. In the end, it will be very interesting to look at the relatively mainstream Lucid Air Pure, which will still not be available to everyone, but not as much as its charged version.

Lucid Air Pure

  • planned release: until the end of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: up to 650 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: about $ 77,000.

While it is difficult to say whether this is really so, but many consider Lucid Motors to be Tesla’s main competitor – in fact, employees from the second work hard in the first. The most famous creation of the brand is the rather expensive electric car Lucid Air. For its Dream Editions, many paid up to $ 170,000, so it is not surprising that the model is not particularly widespread. Lucid Air Pure, on the other hand, is a potentially more affordable version of its older brother, which it loses in terms of mileage on a single charge and some other characteristics, but still remains no less attractive to the masses.

Tesla Cybertruck

  • planned release: at the end of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: up to 800 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: about $ 40,000.

Today it is still unclear what the final version of Cybertruck will be like. Yes, today concepts with bodies made of polished steel seem post-apocalyptic and that is why they attract attention. However, it is important to understand that potential pedestrian safety in a collision usually comes first in the creation of each car, and this concept is incompatible with the current Cybertruck. Apparently, the first final sample of a Tesla pickup truck with four motors per wheel will go on sale in late 2022. But simpler models will linger.

Ford F-150 Lightning

  • planned release: in the middle of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: about 480 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: from $ 40,000.

While Tesla remains the leader among electric passenger electric vehicles, the issue of primacy in the issue of production of pickups without internal combustion engines is suspended in the air. On the one hand, the world is waiting for Cybertruck. On the other hand, sales of the electric version of the Ford F-150 should begin in 2022. This American pickup truck is already one of the best-selling in the world in its class today. Its electric version will acquire a huge trunk in the engine compartment, as well as a carrying capacity of up to 4.5 tons. If such a monster does come out before Cybertruck, it will be very difficult for Tesla to catch up with him.

Fisker Ocean

  • planned release: production starts in November 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: from 400 to 560 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: from $ 37,500 to $ 69,000.

Fisker’s first electric car should be as green as possible. Modern models without an internal combustion engine are usually called fairly low pollutants anyway. However, they are charged with electricity, which was obtained in an unknown way. Moreover, usually the interior of expensive electric vehicles is trimmed with leather and other materials that do not have a particularly positive effect on the environment. To be different, the Fisker Ocean’s interior is made from recycled plastic, and the model has solar panels on the roof for extra energy.

GMC Hummer EV

  • planned release: in 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: 560 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: up to $ 113,000.

The official start of sales of the GMC Hummer EV was scheduled for the very end of 2021, but most electric vehicles in various modifications will be released in 2022. First, the most charged modification will be released, and relatively affordable models will follow. The most modest will see the light of day no earlier than 2023.

Hyundai Ioniq 5

  • planned release: most models in 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: up to 500 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: from $ 40,000 to $ 56,000.

Ioniq is Hyundai’s new lineup that is entirely dedicated to electric cars. The first model to take its place in it will be 5. The compact SUV will be able to boast of relatively fast charging, as well as acceleration to hundreds in 5 seconds. An interesting feature of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be the ability to charge other cars.

Kia EV6

  • planned release: in the first half of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: about 500 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: not yet announced.

The Korean manufacturer has decided to launch 11 new electric vehicles by 2026, and the EV6 is another step towards this strategy. It is equipped with fast charging technology, panoramic touchscreen display and AR-projection on the windshield. This model will share a platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

Mazda MX-30

  • planned release: in the United States at the beginning of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: about 160 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: about $ 34,000.

The MX-30 is Mazda’s first electric car. It can be called urban, because it has a modest 35.5 kWh battery and a power reserve of 160 kilometers. Yes, for a city mode with charging every night, this option looks very attractive. But for intercity trips, it is not suitable.

Rivian R1S

  • planned release: at the beginning of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: more than 500 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: from $ 70,000.

First, under the Rivian brand, an electric pickup was released, which has already been named the best truck in 2022. The R1S SUV should be expected immediately after it. One of its features may be the third row of seats, but even without it, this family “all-terrain vehicle” seems very attractive.

Nissan Ariya

  • planned release: in the fall of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: about 450 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: about $ 47,000.

When Nissan unveiled the Ariya concept, many didn’t take it seriously. It seemed like just art on the Tesla Model Y theme. But the company really decided to actively launch this vehicle and add it to its line of electric cars. Compared to the current Leaf, this is a huge step forward.

Volvo C40 Recharge

  • planned release: at the beginning of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: about 320 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: 55 000 $.

The C40 Recharge is the first electric Volvo to have no equivalent with a combustion engine. This electric car is a slightly more expensive counterpart to the XC40 Recharge. However, the novelty surpasses the prototype in terms of maximum speed, acceleration, and range. Above the rear window is a large wing that Volvo fans can use to distinguish between the C40 Recharge and the XC40 Recharge. The novelty seems more than an attractive option in the role of a mass off-road vehicle for the city and the nearby countryside.

Mercedes EQS

  • planned release: in 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: about 560 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: 102 000 $.

A luxury sedan that is part of Mercedes’ first line of all-electric models. It will also include an SUV and a premium minivan. In 2022, the most charged version of AMG will be released on all fronts, the prices for which will be published later – most likely, not in 2021.

BMW i4

  • planned release: in the middle of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: up to 500 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: from $ 55,000.

The BMW i4 is the Bavarian alternative to the Tesla Model 3. Far from the most expensive option – even without claims to be able to go off-road. The official list of technical characteristics, in general, is still in question, but the approximate mileage on a single charge is already available.

BMW iX

  • planned release: at the beginning of 2022;
  • mileage on one charge: about 450 kilometers;
  • preliminary cost: from $ 83,000.

BMW’s first electric SUV started out as a concept car, but it was still brought to life in the final car with a whole host of technologies that truly deserve respect. For example, special attention should be paid to the radiator grill, made of a special material that cannot be scratched or wrinkled. It also has a hidden rearview camera that is hidden behind the BMW logo, fast charging, and a whole host of other features. Apparently, this particular electric car will be the most interesting in 2022.
