One 14 -year -old student was attacked and killed by a classmate inside the free school located in the University neighborhood, in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, on the morning of Thursday (8).
According to the official note issued by the educational institution, the 9th grade student was injured by another student from the same class with a sharp object. The young man fled shortly after the attack. The motivations behind the action are still unknown.
Despite the rapid action of teachers and the Mobile Emergency Care Service team (Samu), who provided first aid at the site, the severity of the injuries resulted in the death of the young woman.
The Directorate of the Free Learning College has suspended classes and school activities indefinitely. The Civil Police and the Military Police were fired and began the investigation of the case, as informed by the institution.
The school community expressed deep regret and expressed solidarity with the student’s family members. The college reported that it is offering psychological support to all involved and has pledged to take the necessary measures to support the community at this time of pain.
The City of Uberaba decreed official mourning of three days in the municipality, starting this Thursday (8) and ending on Saturday (10). During the mourning period, the official flags will be raised in half mast. Elisa Araújo, mayor of the city deeply lamented what happened and transmitted her condolences to the victim’s family, the school community and to the young people of Uberaba.
