14-year-old student is prevented from entering school in Roraima for wearing slippers

A 14-year-old student was banned from staying on the premises of a school in Roraima for wearing flip-flops.

The student’s mother filed a police report and the case is being investigated by the State Child and Adolescent Protection Center. The case took place on Monday (28).

A CNN the student’s mother reported that her son was out of school for approximately two hours, waiting for a bus home.

A short video recorded by the mother shows the teenager crying, sitting on a bench in front of the school. “Around 2 pm, my son called me saying: ‘Mom, I’m here at the terminal and there’s no bus home’”.

She also shared that her son is now reluctant to return to school and that if he chooses to do so, she will have to accompany him.

The mother stated that the school board was aware of her financial situation, as she was waiting for her son’s pension to be able to buy new shoes.

A CNN the Secretary of Education and Sports of the State of Roraima reported that there is no official guidance to prevent the entry of students based on the type of footwear they are wearing.

The Secretariat also stated that it demanded measures from the management of Escola São José in relation to the conduct of the servant responsible for approaching the student.
