The new InfoGripe bulletin, released this Tuesday (29) by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), shows that Covid-19 continues its new advance across the country. The number of federative units with a trend of moderate growth in the long term (last six weeks) of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) went from 17 to 20 in one week. Earlier this month, there were only four.
Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Roraima and Santa Catarina observe the increase, but the rise is even more pronounced in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Paraiba.
According to Fiocruz, the coronavirus has reached the adult population, including the elderly risk group. The new survey takes into account the period between November 20th and 26th, with data recorded in the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System until last Monday (28th).
In the previous survey, Covid-19 represented 61.8% of patients with SARS in Brazil, a rate that rose to 71.3% in the current survey. In addition, the country registers 3.4% of cases of influenza A, 0.1% of influenza B and 12.1% of Respiratory Syncytial Virus. The coronavirus is responsible for 95.4% of deaths.
InfoGripe coordinator Marcelo Gomes highlights the importance of resuming the use of a face mask, preferably N95 or PFF2, in environments such as public transport, closed or poorly ventilated places, in addition to agglomerations and health units.
“It is extremely important to be careful in order to have the end of the year with the least possible impact, given this epidemiological scenario that is very clear throughout the country”, he added.
In addition to Covid-19, the InfoGripe bulletin brings a concern about the increase in cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus in children in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, in addition to São Paulo, where there is still a significant presence of the infection.
This year, the country added 271,850 patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, with 76.9% of them diagnosed with Covid-19.
