2.7 tons of cocaine seized in Honduras – Found on two boats at sea and on the beach

A large quantity of narcotics was seized yesterday by the Honduran armed forces which was found on two small ships off the Caribbean coast and on the beach. In total, “2,760 packages” of drugs, weighing one kilogram each, were seized, explained the spokesman of the armed forces, Santos Nolasco. Some of the drugs were found buried on a beach and investigations are continuing in the area to determine if there are other quantities there, the spokesman added. On March 24, more than 1.3 tons of cocaine was seized and ten alleged drug traffickers in the Caribbean were arrested. Since the 1970s, Honduras has been part of the cocaine transport routes from Latin America where it is produced to the US. Honduran President Xiomara Castro, who took office in January 2022, has promised to fight trafficking as reported by APE-MPE.
