Russian users of the Netflix streaming service have filed a class action lawsuit with the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow. This was reported by the TASS news agency with reference to the lawyer Konstantin Lukoyanov of the Chernyshov, Lukoyanov and partners bureau.
The plaintiffs demand 60 million rubles due to a unilateral refusal to provide services in Russia. The lawsuit asks to recover 2 million rubles in favor of each plaintiff as compensation for moral damage, as well as to additionally collect a fine from the service in the amount of 50% of the amount awarded to the plaintiffs. In addition, the court is asked to oblige Netflix to resume access to the service and content for Russian users.
Recall that on March 7, the Netflix team announced its decision to suspend work in Russia, and then removed its applications from the Russian versions of the App Store and Google Play. Apps reappeared last week. However, the Russian Netflix site still gives a warning “Netflix is not available in your country”. And, even if you manage to install the app from the App Store and Google Play, you will need a foreign account to view it.
