2-year-old child is shot while walking with his grandmother in Belo Horizonte

A two-year-old child was shot while walking with his grandmother along a street in Belo Horizonte, this Wednesday afternoon (27).

According to the boy’s grandfather, he is stable at Odilon Behrens Municipal Hospital and his life is not at risk.

The Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) reported that a 28-year-old man was also hit. The case took place in the Guarani neighborhood, in the capital of Minas Gerais.

The commander of the 13th PM Battalion, Sergio Rodrigues Dias, informed the CNN that criminals approached a black vehicle pointing a gun at an adult man, who was injured.

The criminals shot and then ran. In addition to the man who was shot, one of the shots hit a child who was walking along the sidewalk with his grandmother. The case was recorded by street security cameras.

According to the commander, the child was grazed in the arm and chest by a .45 caliber weapon.

Dias also stated that the adult man who was shot told the police that he was not suspected of being responsible, but had a history of “involvement in drug trafficking and incidents of fights and threats.”

In an audio provided by Itatiaia to CNN the child’s grandfather stated that his grandson, Samuel, was with his grandmother, who takes care of the boy daily during his parents’ working hours.

The grandfather said he put his grandson on the back of a motorcyclist who quickly took him to a hospital. He added that the child is stable and is not in any life-threatening condition.

An uncle of Samuel told the CNN that the grandmother was going to a bakery to buy cheese bread at the request of the boy, aged 2 years and nine months. Samuel was hit near the gate of his grandmother’s house.

According to the uncle, doctors reported that the bullet hit a bone in the child’s rib and caused a small injury to the lung. “He is well, stable and is now sleeping, but he doesn’t have a discharge date yet,” he said.

“The PCMG deployed official expertise to the location, where the first surveys were carried out and traces were collected, such as: detonated .45 caliber cases and capsules, which will support the investigation. The Civil Police opened a police investigation to determine the circumstances, motivation and authorship of the crime”, informed the Civil Police.

So far, no suspects have been taken to the police station.
