When we read a book, especially a saga, there are thousands of details that are very important part of the plot since later they will have a crucial meaning. However, when adapting them to the big screen, it is not easy to include all of them.
While there are incredible adaptations that are very attached to the literature, there are times when the director decides to eliminate an important part of the story or even a character, either due to lack of time or because he simply does not know the whole plot. Here we show you some examples.
1. Madge Undersee en The Hunger Games
Madge is one of the main characters in the first book, but she was totally cut from the movie. It was she who gifted the mockingjay to Katniss as a symbol of District 12.
2. The Pensieve in Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince
They never showed all of the trips Harry made in the Pensieve, which were essential to the story, as through them Harry understands Voldemort’s background, personality, and motivations.
3. John Ambrose and To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You
In the movie they completely ignored the relationship between John Ambrose and Stormy. In the books she is supposed to be his grandmother and that is the main reason why he volunteers at the nursing home.
4. Lady Stoneheart en Game of Thrones
For some reason that we will never understand, the character of Lady Stoneheart (who was the spirit of Catelyn Stark) never appeared on the series, although it would have given the show more complex depth.
5. Teddy Lupine en Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
In the last film of the saga they never mention the existence of Teddy, the son of Remus and Tonks, not even when Harry sees them dead. TOOtherwise, we never got to see Remus talk about how excited he was to be a dad.
6. Candace and The Perks of Being a Wallflower
They did not include the part where Charlie accompanies Candace to the abortion clinic. It was a scene that would have given a lot of depth to the relationship between the brothers, showing even more the sensitive side of Charlie.
7. Telepathy in Maze Runner
Thomas and Teresa’s ability to communicate telepathically was vital to the story of the book. However, the directors and producers changed the plot completely to omit that detail in the movies. It didn’t make any sense.
8. Mia and Michael in The Princess Diaries
The love story between Mia and Michael was exciting and was an important part of the books, but they didn’t include it much in the movie.
9. The Avox in The Hunger Games
The Avox narrative and their involvement in the rebellion was a crucial part of the story in all three books. However, they are hardly mentioned in the movie.
10. Searching for Violet in All the Bright Places
In the book, Violet goes on a quest to find Finch in all the places they had marked on the map. It is an important part of their healing process to move on with their life, but they did not include it in the movie.
11. The city in Death Note
The movie should have been in Japan and not the United States, as Light finds the notebook in Tokyo. Furthermore, Japanese culture was an integral part of the story and a fundamental aspect of Light’s identity.
12. Harry’s gift in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
At the end of the book, Harry gives all of his winnings to the Weasley twins after winning the tournament. The thousand galleons were the reason the twins were able to open the Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes joke shop.
13. Mia’s father in The Princess Diaries
The fact that Mia’s father is alive in the books is very important to their relationship and the development of the protagonist. There was no reason why it shouldn’t be in the movie.
14. Margo in Paper Towns
In the movie they don’t have a specific reason to go find Margo. In the book they explain very well that the search for Margo was because everyone thought she had escaped and wanted to commit suicide.
15. Tom Bombadil en The Lord of the Rings
Despite the fact that Tom’s character is one of the most enigmatic in the Shire and his participation in the films would have been a bonus very interesting to the plot, this never appears in any of the films of the saga.
