20 years ago, the medical series “Dr. House” premiered on television on November 16, 2004. The series’ creator, David Shore talked about the possibility of a return of the characters or a spin-off of the program starring Hugh Laurie as Gregory House, a brilliant but difficult doctor to deal with.
When asked if he intends to bring the series and its characters back, Shore neither confirmed nor denied: “Not really. I wouldn’t deny it, but these things are very, very difficult to do. You don’t want to ruin anything.”
“You don’t want to ruin your legacy. But at the same time, yes, we had fun with it, and I think it could be fun. But you would have to have the right story, a great story that we were really happy with, and the agendas would have to align, which is, in a strange way, the hardest task of all,” he added.
Shore also said that he had already thought about producing a spin-off focused on one of the series’ secondary characters, but that the idea was never put into practice.
“Even after all this time, I hate to single out any of these characters, because I like them all, and I don’t want anyone to feel bad about not being the one,” he said.
“I could have done a show with any of them, and I would have liked it. But there is also a danger when a series runs too long. Then again, I have no complaints,” Shore added.
