2021 growth brings 0.3% “boost” to 2022 GDP, says economic team

The economic team of the federal government assesses that the 4.6% increase in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2021, released by the IBGE this Friday (4), “more than compensates” for the 3.9% loss in economic activity. economy in 2020, caused by the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a note, the Secretariat of Economic Policy (SPE), points out that the result shows that the Brazilian economy has recovered the pre-pandemic level and showed a recovery in “V”.

The folder also highlights that, in addition to the positive balance for the performance of the last two years, the result for 2021 left a statistical carry effect of 0.3% for this year. Even in the face of escalating tensions on the international scene, in the midst of Russia’s war with Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy advocates that Brazil show “that it is a safe haven for private investments”.

“To this end, it is necessary to maintain the reform agenda, strengthening the capital and credit market, so it is essential to approve the bill (PL) of the New Guarantee Framework, the provisional measure (MP) of public records , and the equity of incentivized debentures. It would also be important to obtain legislative approval for the privatization of Correios and carry out the privatization of Eletrobras in the first half of the year”, argues the government.
