2022 has 4,486 child abuse reports; most cases happen to girls

According to data from the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights (MMFDH), in the five months of 2022, 4,486 complaints of human rights violations against this population related to situations of sexual violence have already been registered.

For this reason, this Wednesday (18) the National Day to Combat Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents was instituted, by Federal Law 9.970/00, with the aim of raising awareness and encouraging complaints.

A survey of the folder, carried out in 2021, showed that of the 18,681 records, in almost 60% of the records, the victim was between 10 and 17 years old and about 74%, the rape was against girls.

The data also showed that in 8,494 of the cases, the victim and the suspect lived in the same residence. Another 3,330 cases took place at the victim’s home and 3,098 at the suspect’s home.

Among the suspects, in 2,617 of the cases were the stepfather and stepmother, 2,443 the father and in 2,044 complaints, the mother was accused.

The date, which serves to raise awareness of the matter, aims to encourage the reporting of these cases. Last year, 48.4% (9,053) of reports of sexual violence against children and adolescents, through Dial 100, were made anonymously.

Normally, in situations of complaints involving children or adolescents, the case is forwarded to the Guardianship Council and, in cases where the violation constitutes, to the Specialized Police Station or to the Common Police Station, in the case of non-existence, and to the Public Ministry.

Awareness

A survey by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), between 2017 and 2022, showed that Brazil recorded 179,277 cases of rape or rape of a vulnerable person with victims up to 19 years old – an average of almost 45,000 cases per year. year. Of those involved, children up to 10 years old represent 62,000 of the victims.

Unicef ​​states that the work is an important contribution to understanding the phenomenon of violence against children and adolescents in Brazil and also a call to action.
