The protective measures granted in the state of Rio de Janeiro registered an increase of 11.7% between January and June of this year. In São Paulo, growth was even greater, reaching 17.4% compared to the first half of last year.
According to data from the interactive panel of the Judicial Observatory on Violence Against Women in Rio de Janeiro, in the first half of this year, 19,838 protective measures were granted in the state. In the first half of last year there were 17,753.
In the first half of 2023, the month with the most protective measures granted was January, with 4,078. Last year, the peak was March, with 3,539 decisions of this type.
According to data from the Court of Justice of São Paulo (TJSP), protective measures granted from January to June of this year already amount to 43,139. In the first half of last year there were 36,718.
According to data from the National Council of Justice (CNJ), throughout the country, 254,440 protective measures have already been granted from January to July this year.
Protective Measure
To ensure the safety of women victims of domestic violence, in 2006, the Maria da Penha Law was published, and later, in 2015, Law 13.104/15, which typified the crime of feminicide.
In the Maria da Penha Law, one of the mechanisms most used by judges in cases of domestic violence is protective measures. They serve to temporarily remove the aggressor from the woman victim of violence, to avoid new episodes of aggression and even a case of femicide.
Starting next Monday (7th), the CNJ promotes the 17th Journey of the Maria da Penha Law. The event will be attended by Maria da Penha, a biopharmaceutical from Ceará, who inspired the legislation, and will take place in a hybrid format, broadcast on YouTube.
The opening will be attended by the President of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Minister Rosa Weber.
