22 Mummies Of The Pharaohs Will Be Carried Through The Streets Of Cairo, Accompanied By War Chariots: Why

In Egypt, they are preparing for an unusual event – the “Golden Parade of the Pharaohs”. 22 mummies will be solemnly transported to the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization. Writes about this BBC.

Crowds of Egyptians are expected to line the streets of Cairo to watch the historic procession of the country’s ancient rulers.

During this multi-million dollar event, 22 mummies – 18 kings and four queens – will be transferred from the Egyptian Museum to their new home, the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, which is located 5 km from the old one.

The remains of the pharaohs will be transported in the chronological order of their reign – from the ruler of the 17th dynasty of Sekenenra Taa II to Ramses IX, who ruled in the 12th century BC.

Restrictions on outdoor gatherings have now been lifted in Egypt.

One of the main attractions of the event is Ramses II, the most famous pharaoh of the New Kingdom, who ruled for 67 years and is remembered for signing the first known peace treaty.

Each mummy will be transported in a decorated vehicle equipped with special shock absorbers and surrounded by a cortege, including replicas of horse-drawn war chariots.

The mummies were placed in special nitrogen-filled capsules to protect them from external conditions. The roads along the route have also been paved to ensure a smooth ride.

Egyptian officials are hoping the new museum, which opens fully this month, will help revitalize tourism, the country’s main source of foreign exchange. The mummies will be presented to the general public from April 18th. The hall in which they will be exhibited was designed to give visitors the illusion of being in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor.
