As noted, Thomas Karlsson was working in the forest with a map for his orienteering club when he noticed something shiny on the ground. It turned out to be old jewelry.

At first he thought that these were copies of ancient products – the decorations were very well preserved, but scientists dated them to the period between 750 and 500 BC.

The treasure was found because the ground that hid it, presumably, was unearthed by wild animals.

Swedish law requires anyone who finds antiques to notify the police or local authorities as they are considered property. of the State The Swedish National Heritage Council then decides what remuneration, if any, the finder should receive.

Karlsson informed the local archaeologist, and a group of specialists arrived at the place of the find. They found about 50 different jewelry – necklaces, bracelets, pins for clothes.

The forest is located near the town of Alingsas, about 48 km northeast of Gothenburg.

Swedish archaeologists say that finding such a treasure in the forest is very rare. In ancient times, people usually left such offerings in rivers or swamps, and the treasures found lay in the forest floor, next to the rocks.

Archaeologists describe the find as a “warehouse” – that is, items deliberately left as an offering to a god or gods or to prepare for life after death.

According to the professor of archeology at the University of Gothenburg, Professor Johan Ling, this jewelry could have belonged to a woman or women of high status.

Pernilla Morner, an expert on antiquities from the Västra Götaland region, said that “not once since the bronze shields from Froslund were dug on a field in Skaraborg in the mid-1980s has such a breathtaking Bronze Age find been made in Sweden. “.
