The Civil Police are investigating the disappearance of 26 firearms from a Municipal Guard base in Cajamar, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The disappearance occurred days ago, but the police report was only registered last Tuesday (9).
According to the city of Cajamar, the agents involved in guarding and monitoring the weapons were removed this Wednesday (10). According to the administration, an investigation is underway, conducted by the Municipal Civil Guard Internal Affairs and the Municipal Department of Justice, to investigate all events related to the incident.
The case was registered as loss or misplacement by the Cajamar Police Station and a police investigation was launched to determine the circumstances of the events and recover the weapons.
“The City Council reaffirms its unwavering commitment to transparency, ethics and legality in all its actions, cooperating fully with the competent authorities to clarify the facts”, says the municipality in a statement.
In August 2020, the city of Cajamar announced that it had received new weapons for the Municipal Civil Guard. At the time, 60 .40 pistols and 8 .40 carbines were acquired by the administration.
However, the city hall did not detail which weapons were missing.
