27 soldiers killed in Mali after jihadist attack

Jihadist attack on a camp of his armed forces Mali in the central part of the Sahel country, 27 members of the army were killed and dozens of “terrorists” were “neutralized”, the army headquarters announced.

It was the deadliest attack in recent months.

It started unfolding yesterday morning, around 07:30 (Greek time) in the Montoro camp, in central Mali. In addition to the 27 dead, the staff spoke of 33 wounded, among them 21 in serious condition, and seven “missing” in the ranks of the armed forces.

Always according to the staff, 47 of the perpetrators of the attack were “neutralized” (killed) yesterday morning and then another 23 in a “clearing operation against terrorist hideouts”.

The military regime declared three days of national mourning from today Saturday.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a rally in Mali. In recent months, reinforcements have arrived in the African country, which Bamako says are Russian trainers and the West accuses of being mercenaries. France and its European allies, who had formed the Takuba Special Forces, announced their imminent withdrawal from Mali.

Amid escalating diplomatic tensions between the military junta that came to power in 2020 and some of Mali’s partners, especially France, the African army has not stopped chanting its “successes” in the fight against of the jihadists.

The staff has announced the deaths of dozens of “terrorists” in recent months and in a press release released this week assured that “fear has changed camp, the enemy has fled to the border or is hiding in the population.”
