South Africa rescue teams work to remove 289 miners who were underground in the basement of a gold mine near Johannesburg. The information is from South African Mining Multinational Compnahi, Sibanye Stillwater.
“We can confirm that we had an incident in the Kloof 7 well and we are busy with the well safety and inspection procedures, after which we will do the employees to the surface,” said a Sibanye spokesman.
The spokesman said all workers were safe and accounted for and that the company was providing food.
“We hope the situation will be resolved around noon today,” added the spokesman.
The National Mineiros Union (Num) previously said that it received reports from the incident, which said it had happened around 10 pm on Thursday (22), local time (17h, in Brasilia).
