The new registrations (start-ups) in the whole economy increased by 3.3% in the first quarter of this year and amounted to 27,301, compared to 26,441 in the first quarter of 2021. While, a decrease of 20.9% was recorded compared to the fourth quarter 2021 which had risen to 34,508.
According to the business demographics of ELSTAT, for the sectors of economic activity with the largest contribution to the total turnover (according to the data of the Statistical Business Register 2019), the largest increase in the number of new business registrations was recorded in the section “Accommodation service activities and catering services “(68.1%) and in the sector” Transport and storage “(66.7%). While the largest decrease was recorded in the sector “Construction” (19%) and in the sector “Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” (0.7%).
As far as bankruptcies are concerned, these amounted to 7, but the data on business bankruptcies are not published by ELSTAT for reasons of statistical confidentiality regarding the protection of business identity.
By large geographical area of ​​Greece, the sectors of economic activity, in which the largest number of new business registrations occurred, are:
-Northern Greece: “Wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles”, with 1,096 registrations in a total of 6,293.
-Central Greece: “Agriculture, forestry and fisheries”, with 1,640 registrations in a total of 6,190.
Attica: “Professional, scientific and technical activities”, with 2,221 registrations in a total of 10,977.
-Aegean Islands- Crete: “Agriculture, forestry and fisheries”, with 1,086 registrations in a total of 3,841.
By category of legal form of enterprise, the sectors of economic activity, in which the largest number of new business registrations took place, are:
Individual Enterprises: “Agriculture, forestry and fisheries”, with 4,052 registrations in a total of 18,089.
-Personal businesses: “Activities of accommodation services and catering services”, with 862 registrations in a total of 3,474.
-Capital companies: “Real estate management”, with 110 registrations in a total of 460.
-Other legal forms: “Real estate management”, with 835 registrations in a total of 5,278.
