3.7 million Italians will not take their summer holidays this year

There are those who went on holiday in June, as soon as school finished, to take advantage of the lower prices, with over 90% of those who left choosing Italy and as many as a third who will stay at the homes of friends and relatives . But there are also those who won’t take holidays.

According to a survey carried out by mUp Research and Bilendi for Facile.it, in fact, there will be around 3.7 million Italian citizens who will give up their summer holidays for economic-financial reasons.

Specifically the 47% of those interviewed declared that they were in difficulty due to a general increase in living costswhile the 33% will choose not to go on holiday precisely in reference to the increase in holiday prices.

Going on holiday in Italy in the summer of 2024 will cost 20% more than the previous year. Nothing unexpected in fact: the summer of 2024 will be the one in which Italy is preparing to receive the record number of tourists, which will exceed the frightening numbers of 2023 of 134 million arrivals and 451 million presencesand prices rise for everyone, foreigners visiting 5-star hotels and Italians looking for an affordable place to spend a week’s holiday.

According to Altroconsumo’s summer report, which takes into consideration 6 tourist locations, the costs of hotels and B&Bs will have an average increase of 21% compared to the previous year. In August, planes have prices which, according to Udicon, can increase by up to 25-30%, in addition to the risk of overbooking which could leave someone at home. Ferries go up on average by 6.3% compared to last year and according to the Assoutenti survey a family (two parents and two children) will pay on average 5% more for sunbeds and umbrellas.
