3 Brazilian artisanal pizzerias are among the 50 best chains in the world

With units in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, the Bráz Pizzaria was elected to fourth best artisanal pizzeria chain in the world in 2024, repeating last year’s placement.

This is what the 50 Top World Artisan Pizza Chains 2024 an Italian ranking released this Wednesday (27) that evaluates and ranks the best artisanal pizzeria chains in the world.

Only restaurants with at least four units in the country of origin are evaluated, also taking into account the artisanal preparation and standard of the pizza at all addresses. The ranking is curated by 50 Top Pizza an annual guide that chooses the best pizzerias in the world.

Of the 50 names, two others are from Brazil. THE 1900 Pizzeria with units spread across the capital of São Paulo, ranked 14th, while La Braciera also with houses in São Paulo, made its debut in the ranking and came in 35th place.

The best placed Brazilian pizzeria in the ranking, Braz has seven units in São Paulo, one in Campinas and another in Rio de Janeiro. The only national chain in the top 5, the pizzeria is highlighted in the ranking due to its ingredients, wines and olive oil.

“The selection of Italian ingredients is impressive, including wines and extra-virgin olive oil from the Bràz brand, selected directly in Italy,” says the official award website.

The Brazilian network that appears next, the 1900 Pizzeria was founded in 1983 in a mansion from the beginning of the 20th century in Vila Mariana, hence the name of the house. The brand gained momentum and now operates eight restaurants in the capital of São Paulo. At this year’s awards, the 1900 won the “Performance of the Year” award.

Already the La Braciera was created in 2021 and focuses on Neapolitan pizzas with ingredients from Italy, such as flour. The doughs have a long fermentation period of 72 hours. According to the chain, an average of 20 thousand rounds are sold per month. The units are spread across São Paulo, in the neighborhoods of Higienópolis, Tatuapé, Santana, Jardins and Morumbi.

Appearing as a novelty in the ranking, La Braciera took the “New Entry of the Year” award.

Choice of pizzerias

The 50 Top World Artisan Pizza Chains list is dedicated to businesses with at least four locations in the country of origin or abroad.

The ranking is created according to the evaluations of more than 100 anonymous judges, who visit restaurants around the world in pairs, pay their own bill and follow a series of criteria to award points.

It is worth remembering that the choice of the 50 best artisanal chain pizzerias is different from the list of the best pizzerias in the world by 50 Top Pizza, a ranking that lists pizzerias in Italy and the world without style preference.

In the most recent edition, five Brazilian pizzerias gained space among the 100 best in the world. They are Leggera Pizza Napoletana (11th place); QT Pizza Bar (38th); A Pizza da Mooca (53rd); Unica Pizzeria (87th) and Ferro e Farinha (89th).
