Three decades after the release of her album “Erotica” and her book “Sex”, Madonna reflected on changing standards for how women can talk about sex in a story on her Instagram account.
The 1992 book features nude photos of the pop icon taken by photographers Steven Meisel and Fabien Baron, as well as images that simulated sexual acts and scenes of sadomasochism. Rapper Vanilla Ice and top model Naomi Campbell and other models appear in the book’s 128 pages.
In her Instagram story, Madonna said: “I’ve also written about my sexual fantasies and shared my point of view on sexuality in an ironic way.”
She received an immediate reaction for the publication.
“I spent the next few years being interviewed by narrow-minded people who tried to embarrass me for empowering me as a woman. I’ve been called a whore, witch, heretic and devil,” the superstar wrote.
Despite the controversy, the book sold millions of copies, reaching number one on The Washington Post and the New York Times bestseller list.
Madonna, 64, has linked her experiences to younger musicians and public figures who can be more open about their sexuality in public.
“Now Cardi B can sing about her ‘WAP’. Kim Kardashian can grace the cover of any magazine with her bare ass and Miley Cyrus can walk in like a wrecking ball,” she wrote.
“You’re welcome, p—-.”
