34 people are taken hostage during the robbery of a chartered bus, in Guamiranga (PR)

A robbery on a chartered bus left 34 people hostage by criminals after returning from shopping in Paraguay, in the early hours of this Thursday (4), on BR-373, in Guamiranga, in the center-south of Paraná. The suspects stole passengers' luggage.

According to reports from passengers at the Civil Police Station, in Ponta Grossa (PR), the action took place in around half an hour, from 3 am to 3:30 am. The criminals approached with gunfire and positioned a pickup truck in front of the bus, forcing the driver to stop the chartered vehicle.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF) of Paraná, the suspects took the bus to a dirt road, where they began the robbery. Information from the Civil Police Incident Report indicates that the vehicle contained personal objects, electronics, clothes and shoes.

The PRF also reported that support vehicles were used to escape with the passengers' belongings. The group of hostages included 32 passengers and two drivers. The vehicle was heading towards São Paulo.

In a statement, the authorities stated that the criminals were not identified and made available the telephone number 191 to receive reports about the criminals' whereabouts and to receive information about crimes on federal highways.

The Civil Police of Paraná said it will open a police investigation to investigate the case and take steps to identify the perpetrators of the crime.

A CNN contacted the charter bus company TransIsaak and is awaiting a response.
