4 in 10 Brazilians plan to shop for Father’s Day online, says survey

Four out of ten Brazilians must purchase items online to give as a gift on Father’s Day.

A survey carried out by the company NielsenIQ points out that more than 11 million Brazilians should buy gifts for their parents via the internet by August 14, the day that the date is celebrated in Brazil.

Most of those interested in carrying out this type of acquisition on the commemorative date are men, between 35 and 49 years of age.

Most of them have a salary range that varies between R$4,000 and R$12,000.

In the regional section, São Paulo leads the presence of consumers willing to make online purchases in the period, with more than 35% of those interested.

Then appear Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro.

Wines are among the most sought-after gifts for the period, according to the survey. Demand for the drink grew, for example, by more than 123% with the proximity of Father’s Day, compared to the same period last year.

Articles related to “home and decoration” and “perfumery and cosmetics” also appear in the spotlight.

Despite the high demand for e-commerce in 2022, the study points to a lower average ticket compared to last year.

The average amount a Brazilian is willing to pay for a gift dropped from R$270 to R$144 in one year.

Inflationary pressure, higher prices for products, and the lower purchasing power of Brazilians are the main factors responsible for the drop in the average ticket for Father’s Day.

“Intention to purchase via the internet remains at a high level, despite the turbulent economic environment. With lower income, consumers choose to spend less, but keep buying the gift for the loved one. This shows the importance of the date for retail as a whole and for e-commerce specifically”, analyzed Nielsen economist Marcelo Osanai.
