Forty (40) business groups will be hosted and supported in the 10th round of egg – enter•grow•go, the most recognized and comprehensive business acceleration program in Greece, designed and implemented since 2013 by Eurobank, in collaboration with the Corallia Unit of E.K. Athena. The total of 115 young entrepreneurs who emerged after the completion of the evaluation of the submitted nominations, will be hosted and supported by egg for 12 months, with the aim of their business development.
The strategic aim of egg – enter•grow•go, which since the beginning of its operation has already supported more than 1,000 young entrepreneurs, is to support, with this new cycle, the dynamic and competitive Greek innovation ecosystem. This year’s submission process was dominated by strong quantitative and qualitative positive features with enhanced competition, a high level of maturity of business plans in many productive sectors of the economy and great interest from a number of research groups.
It is indicative that this year 84% – of all the nominations qualified from the 1st Evaluation Phase – of the submitted business plans managed to pass the 3rd (and final) Evaluation Phase, from which all 40 finalists emerged business groups. This percentage is the highest percentage recorded in the history of the egg. In addition, one (1) out of two (2) groups that joined the 10th cycle is registered in the National Register of Young Businesses Elevate Greece, while six (6) out of 10 already have, as the implementer of their business plan, a company that has been established. It is also worth noting that the percentage of women participating in business groups is 26%, which exceeds the average in Greece (20%), as well as the corresponding percentage in Europe (15%).
The results justify the strategic planning of the new cycle of the egg Start-Up Platform. Central directions are the encouragement of numerous business groups in cutting-edge industries, characterized by a high degree of innovation, the strengthening of the interconnection of university research with entrepreneurship and the attraction of business groups from the wider region of South-East Europe, which was also the main pursuit of egg. It is indicative that five (5) business groups out of 40 come from Cyprus.
In the 10th cycle of egg – enter•grow•go, the sectors of Innovative Medical Applications & the broader Health Sciences sector (22%), New Energy Technologies & Renewable Energy Sources (12%) gathered the highest interest, while from 7% the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sectors with an emphasis on Internet of Things and Emerging Financial Applications & FinTech Technologies, but also Innovative Tourism Applications.
In addition and specifically for the Tourism sector and with the completion of the evaluation of the applications of the relevant invitation of the General Secretariat of Research & Innovation of the Ministry of Development & Investments, the business plan of the companies of the Cooperative Formation of Innovation in the Tourism – Culture sector was approved with an agency supporting the Eurobank and manager the egg. Participating companies secure funding of 2.5 million euros with the aim of modernizing the country’s tourism and cultural product, through the adoption of software and digital content technologies, Internet of Everything technologies, mobile smart device applications and other high-tech applications.
