Festivities such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve and the FIFA World Cup boost the hiring of employees in the bar and restaurant sector.
According to a survey by the Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants (Abrasel), 45% of businessmen say they intend to expand their workforce by the end of this year.
Another 25% said they had already hired extra staff in September.
Among those who expect to increase the number of professionals, 63% point out that there is a forecast of increased demand due to the events scheduled for this second semester.
According to the survey, 11% of companies are looking for more people to expand their business with new products/services and 9% want to open branches.
In addition, 25% are looking for professionals to recompose the staff and readjust the business to the new post-pandemic market configuration.
About 51% of establishment owners intend to keep the current team and only 4% say they must lay off by the end of 2022.
The survey was answered by 1,709 entrepreneurs in the sector.
Abrasel’s research also reveals an improvement in the financial situation of establishments. According to the survey, 31% of companies said they had installments of Simples Nacional in arrears. The number is lower than that recorded in August (36%), July (38%) and June (42%).
Among those who responded to the survey, 84% fall under this tax regime.
“We are entering a virtuous cycle in the coming months, with several factors contributing positively: the end of the pandemic, the improvement in purchasing power, social benefits such as Auxílio Brasil, the drop in unemployment rates, the increase in people going to bars and restaurants after such difficult times. The ‘icing on the cake’ is the World Cup in November, we are very excited”, says the CEO of Abrasel, Paulo Solmucci.
The research also identified that it is difficult to find professionals to fill available vacancies. This is the case of positions such as baker and sommelier, identified as having a high degree of difficulty in hiring.
The greater availability of vacancies is in the positions of kitchen assistant, with jobs in 59% of establishments, waiter (55%) and attendant (49%).
