A 5-year-old boy, identified as Carlos Eduardo Cabral de Moura, died after being shot outside a market in the city of Japeri (RJ), in Baixada Fluminense, this Friday (1st).
He was hit by gunfire as he was leaving a market accompanied by his mother, in the Nova Belém neighborhood. After the shooting, he was rescued, but did not resist.
According to the Fogo Cruzado Institute, with the death of Carlos Eduardo, the number of children shot in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro this year alone rose to 18. Of these, 15 were injured, while three died.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the “Homicide Police Station of Baixada Fluminense (DHBF) is investigating the death of Carlos Eduardo Cabral de Moura”, and that the agents “carry out investigations to determine who was responsible for the crime.”
On social media, the city’s Municipal Department of Education lamented the death of the boy, who studied at the Darcilio Ayres school.
