How voting works
The Top 50 Bars in North America rankings reflect the best bar experiences based on votes from Academy members, who are anonymous experts on the North American bar industry (including bartenders, bar owners, beverage media and well-travelled cocktail connoisseurs) from the US, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
In 2023, the Academy was expanded to 270 members. This change was implemented to take a broader view and ensure a greater number of diverse voices voting on the awards. Additionally, as with all Top 50 lists for restaurants, bars and hotels, 25% of Academy memberships are renewed annually to keep perspectives dynamic and relevant . Members of the Top 50 organization do not vote and do not control the composition of the list ; That is the collective role of the voting Academy. This means that pubs cannot apply to be on the list and no sponsors have any influence over the list.
