This Thursday (4), the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) holds the auction of 5G frequencies, the new mobile connectivity standard that promises high-speed internet for Brazil. The companies that win the dispute will be responsible for purchasing and installing equipment and transmission towers for the signal of the new technology and will have the right to exploit the tracks for 20 years.
The expectation is that the arrival of 5G will pave the way for the development of innovations in areas such as augmented reality, virtual reality, the so-called internet of things with the connections of various devices to the internet, autonomous equipment and holography and for carrying out more complex activities at a distance, such as surgeries. But inequality in the country is one of the biggest challenges to ensuring access to new technology, and the change should take some time to reach most consumers.
In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an overview of the prospects for technological advancement and investments in infrastructure from the 5G auction in Brazil. To describe what is expected from the process of implementing the new technology, participating in this episode are consultant Fabro Steibel, PhD in communication and executive director of ITS Rio (Institute of Technology and Society of Rio), and Eduardo Grizendi, director of engineering and operations at RNP (National Education and Research Network).
