5G can bring BRL 590 billion in benefits per year to Brazil by 2031, says study

Applications involving 5G can bring a benefit of BRL 590 billion per year to the country by 2031 according to a study involving the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the business consultancy Deloitte and the Brazilian government.

Also, according to an estimate by consultancy Omdia and Nokia, the improvements that 5G can bring to the country have the capacity to raise GDP by $1.2 trillion by 2035 .

While 5G has gained recognition for bringing the user a faster internet, that’s not the technology’s only function — and it’s not the main reason forecasts are optimistic.

This is because the new technology brings the ability to connect and automate appliances and equipment. This ends up providing businesses with greater productivity and, consequently, greater profit — bringing benefits to the country’s economy, as indicated by the studies.

benefits

According to Alberto Silva, a telecommunications specialist at the international business consultancy Bain & Company, the impact is expected to happen especially in the logistics sector, making the entire chair – from the truck to the cargo ship – connected through a solution 5G

The expert cites the automotive sector as an example: “a factory belonging to the FCA group [da marca Jeep]already uses a private 5G network to replace remote cabling, allowing failures in vehicle components to be identified through high resolution cameras”.

“We will see more and more impact on our economy as these applications become more mature”, he explains.

These applications are already being implemented in the country. In the interior of São Paulo, in Sorocaba, Huawei, a Chinese multinational and one of the main 5G providers in the world, already has a distribution center that works with the technology.

With 12 autonomous robots connected, capable of carrying up to 800 kg of products and equipment on their own in a space of 22 thousand square meters, the distribution center recorded a 25% gain in the overall operation of the space, in addition to a 30% reduction in lead time. of logistical delivery and the total elimination of operational errors.

postpaid plans

For the individual, the question remains: will it be necessary to pay more to use the technology?

consulted by CNN Soft Business , the CEO of Claro, Paulo César Teixeira, the CEO of Tim, Alberto Griselli, and the vice-president of Vivo, Marcio Fabbris, representatives of the three largest operators in the country, stated that there will be no extra charge for the availability of the internet network ultra fast. But there are caveats.

“The greater possibility of collection exists in the corporate segment, because the technology in that vertical allows to generate productivity gains and creates value. Generating value, it is correct that our sector, by making this technology available, can capture a small piece of this generated value”, said Alberto Griselli.

Marcio Fabbris, vice president of Vivo, explained that 5G will allow the operator to sell more than just connectivity. “We’re going to bundle the connectivity solution with the application solution, so the customer doesn’t have to worry about buying components separately.”

“This should be an important part of the revenue of our business segment in the future”, he bets.

Regarding the operators’ obligations, signed in the 5G auction, which involve connecting the Amazon and the country’s public schools, Paulo César Teixeira, CEO of Claro, said he will work together with Tim and Vivo.

“We will fulfill the obligations within a perspective of synergy. Today, antennas, in general, are already shared between us. The same will happen now in these mandatory coverage, which will have to be done at the level of highways and small towns”, he concludes.

the episode of CNN Soft Business which airs this Sunday (11), presenters Phelipe Siani and Fernando Nakagawa visit the Huawei Distribution Center, in Sorocaba, and talk to industry experts about implementations and changes in the country with 5G.
