Entire cities connected, automated cars, robots on factory production lines, intelligent irrigation in the countryside and an ultra-speed internet. These are examples of what 5G can bring from advances in technology.
With the new network, the world in which everyday objects and equipment come to life through movements, sensors and intelligence is very close, it could even be indoors.
“5G has a series of characteristics that are quite disruptive compared to previous technologies, one of which is transmission speed. And also a much larger number of connected devices, this is very important when we think about the internet of things”, says Fabio Lima, professor at FEI.
On November 4th and 5th, Anatel held the auction for the operation of the 5G network bands in the country. There were 47 proposals that, together, exceed R$ 47 billion. Of this amount, nearly R$ 40 billion will be earmarked for investments to expand the connectivity infrastructure in Brazil.
Anatel defined that the 5g should work in 26 capitals and in the Federal District until July 31, 2022. The technology should expand to other cities that have more than 500 thousand inhabitants, by July 2025.
A survey indicates that consumers interviewed are willing to pay 50% more for 5G plans, and most of the expected spending, 73%, on digital services, which should be concentrated on videos and mobile games.
With the 5G internet, we will increasingly see smart homes, without the presence of remote controls or many switches. For example a flood sensor. The sensor senses any kind of problem, such as a leak in the house, and immediately indicates that something is wrong and can even solve the problem, ensuring that the water is no longer circulating.
In the next episode of the CNN Brazil special series 5G Revolution: The Internet 100 Times Faster, you will see how technology will impact the job market.
