The Moscow Mayor’s Office has begun work on introducing 5G technology into the metro system. This was announced at the Forum of Smart Cities by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, who called this project unique.
At the moment, 5G technology is being tested today on the basis of eight test sites in Moscow. These are pilot projects, within the framework of which the capabilities of fifth generation cellular networks are tested. According to the city’s IT department, Moscow ranks fourth in terms of the distribution of telecom operator ecosystems, behind only Tokyo, Berlin and Madrid.
In March of this year, MTS announced plans to launch a custom 5G pilot network in the 4.9 GHz band. The network should cover 14 of the most popular locations in the capital and provide higher bandwidth compared to 4G.
